Last weeks Orlando Tech Meetup was filled with innovative demos from companies that are looking to help change the way we do things in Orlando. The meetup featured Team IDEA, recent Hack The Arena winners, reThink, Talentify, and Allure.
Team IDEA were the first to demo the application they built in just two days. The app called BreakAway, is an entertaining and engaging way for fans to come together during the breaks and downtime in games. Last week the audience pulled out their mobile devices and got the chance to play for themselves. The game consisted of basketballs that transitioned from black and white colors. The rule was simple, tap on the black ball each time it appears. Team IDEA is looking to add more games along with rewards for the winners. Today, they will be meeting with the Orlando Magic in hopes of bringing this to life on the Jumbotron.
reThink has been changing the way people commute for the last five years. The company knows that traffic in Central Florida can be overwhelming and have been developing new methods to get around that. Their newest project, The Commuter Challenge, is a free platform aimed at rewarding commuters for how they travel. Commuters logon and track how many miles it took them to walk, bike or take the bus to and from work. Once they reach certain amount of miles they can qualify for a number of different rewards. The service is based on the honor system, which means they are trusting the community to abide by the rules without supervising or asking too many questions. The system is available only for Volusia County, but they are hoping to have it launched in Orange County sometime in May.

Next up was Talentify, a company that planted its roots in Brazil. In their very first year the company made a profit of a million dollars. They are now here in the United Staes and calling Orlando their home. Talentify has created a unique concept to job recruitment that merges marketing and technology all together. The company is looking to help companies take the stress, time and hassle out of finding new employees by doing the work for them. All the employers have to do is send them a description of the position. They then use their system to automatically connect you with the most qualified and interested candidates.
The final demo of the night was from Allure, an advertising company that started about a year and half ago. Allure is giving people tours of spaces without them technically being there. Through the use of 360 cameras they are letting users navigate their way through an entire house. You ultimately give yourself the tour. The 360 camera lets you immerse yourself through the entire house, from the kitchen to the bedrooms and outside. These virtual tours are hosted directly on Google’s network. Allure mainly work with homes, but they are hoping to expand and reach other audiences as well. Their goal is to get companies thinking of alternative ways to brand and market themselves, by offering them unique marketing strategies that will leave a lasting impression.
